Fifth grade students at Wolcott Elementary School will tour Manchester Community College and Trinity College in the fall of 2019 in order to get a clear picture of what a college campus looks like, meet with students and professors to discuss the benefits of a college education, and begin realistic, longterm goal setting in order to make college a reality. Students will begin the morning at Manchester Community College, learning about how community colleges can make college accessible and affordable to all. They will learn how success at a community college can result in the transfer of credits and scholarships to traditional colleges. They will explore career options and learn about jobs that they have never even heard of before. Then students will travel to Trinity College, where this process will be repeated. Along the way, students will have an opportunity to meet and ask questions to students, professors, deans, and more. Then the students will engage in longterm goal setting that will be discussed at parent-teacher conferences during the following month. This will truly be a vision of the future for all of our fifth grade students.
