This grant funds Kore Teen Active Wobble Chairs for student use in grades 2 – 5 at Whiting Lane Elementary School. Wobble chairs are stools that have a design that gently rolls with a child’s natural movements, so he or she stays supported and comfortable while wiggling around on the stool. These stools replace ordinary chairs and stools that force growing bodies into unnatural, static positions that are uncomfortable and don’t help with posture. Wobble chairs essentially allow students to burn off excess energy while staying engaged, thus improving learning. The use of these chairs will increase student focus and attention, decrease the amount of time spent on distractions while increasing overall student productivity, learning and success. The chairs will be evenly distributed among grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 and will be used by students all day, every day to increase student focus and attention. Every student who so desires will have the opportunity to use the Wobble Chair. Teachers will create a simple schedule to ensure that all students have access to these innovative chairs and hence, the benefits of better focus and attention.
