This grant, Drums Alive - A Body and Mind Educational Experience, will provide Charter Oak International Elementary School Pre-School students through Grade 5 a unique opportunity. Drums Alive is a drumming program that provides great physical workout in addition to reinforcing cognitive learning. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the units they study throughout the year. Drums Alive have many cross-curriculur benefits. For example, in math, students not only get a great physical workout, but Kindergaten sutdnets learn number sense and patterning while drumming, this makes math more concrere and fun. In language arts, students will need to listen, view, communicate and present their creative drumming patterns. In scenice, concepts such as speed, force and motion will be reinforced. Students will also learn about the cultural spects of drumming in different countries in social studies.
