This grant is used to teach important academic, social and independent living skills to students in the STRIVE program. Students can sometimes become disengaged from academics. Cooking activities promote another means to stimulate students' interest in the learning process. The lessons promote academic learning with oral communication and basic math skills as well as cooperation, positive social interactions, planning and organization, and responsibility taking. In addition, it is beneficial to learn basic cooking as they prepare for the next stage in their lives.
