In this project, Charter Oak Internataional Academy elementary school is going one step further to build their sustainability program by introducing an EvanLEE 4-tier Indoor Growing System (IGS) which adds a new dimension to the "Farm-to-School" food movement. The IGS will be a student-led, authentic learning experience, which builds excitement and brings fresh and healthy vegetables to the cafeteria while strengthening the connection to the land/soil as the building block for all living things. Students will explore their role as stewards of land, water and air and will work to turn around the decline of the health of the environment. This hyper-local food movement presents many opportunities for hands-on learning and greater cultural understanding as students explore the origins of sustainable food movements which can be found all across the globe.
