Research shows that adults reading aloud to their children impact them positively in many ways, for example, increasing vocabulary development and literacy skills, developing a love for reading, and strengthening the social-emotional connections within families. Students at Smith STEM will benefit from a take-home book bag system that will allow families to have access to high-quality read aloud stories for parents to read to their children on a daily basis. If a child takes home a read aloud book each school day, that equals approximately 180 books read aloud to them in one year! Then add in the leveled readers that they will be reading to their family and that will double to 360 or more books!
