Cricket Press Grant: Prototyping with a 3D Printer
- School Year: 2014-2015
- Applicants: Dawn Anstett, Lead Teacher
- School: Bristow Middle School
- Subjects: Technology
This grant will support the purchase of a MakerBot Replicator 2 (3-D printer) for Bristow Middle School. Students in seventh and eighth grade Tech Ed classes will be able to model, test, evaluate, and modify an idea, employing a primary concept and standard for engineering design. The MakerBot Replicator 2 offers these students a real world application of this concept. In the seventh grade, students will experience the process of taking their ideas and 2-D drawings to a 3-D prototype that can be mass produced. In the eighth grade, while students review the drafting principles and engineering design process, they will create 3- D CAD drawings of various historic bridge truss models. These models will be printed on the 3-D printer to provide data that will be further utilized in the science classroom to design and build a Popcycle bridge.
