This grant funds guest speakers for the “Empowering Young Black Women Group” at Hall High School. This group provides support to lower income black female students in researching and pursuing post-secondary options successfully. Two cohorts of students are organized at Hall – the 9th and 10th grade students and the 11th grade students. Each group meets once or twice a month with a total of between 30-40 students participating in each year. The group hosts guest speakers, monthly meetings, and a field trip to a local college with the opportunity to meet with college admissions counselors. The Empowering Young Black Women group at Hall High School has been successful at promoting personal and academic self-awareness in this group of students.
