Everyone can be a Maker! : drawing all students to a community makerspace!
- School Year: 2016-2017
- Applicants: Shannon McNeice, Lead Teacher
- School: Sedgwick Middle School
- Subjects: Other ~ Makerspace, STEM
All students at Sedgwick Middle School will be exposed to a makerspace all their own, with exciting new offerings every month to stimulate imaginations and open up opportunities. This grant will give the makerspace in the library new offerings to increase the possibilities and excitement for students. This center will provide an opportunity for students to build and design new products with the materials that are provided, such as 3Doodler 3D printing pen and a Makedo Cardboard Construction Kit. The center would allow students to utilize STEAM skills in a practical and hands-on way that works well for middle school students with all different types of learning styles. This makerspace aligns directly to the “Innovative Designer” standard in which “students design, utilize tools, create prototypes, and demonstrate perseverance.” Students will be able to come in and participate during varying times during the school day and will be asked for feedback through surveys. This center will provide an exciting opportunity for all students to explore new materials and create projects using only their imagination and the materials provided.
