This grant will purchase books for a listening station for first-grade students at Duffy Elementary School. The books are part of our centers and a way for students to practice listening to reading without a screen and with real books! It gives them book handling practice and the opportunity to build early reading skills. Listening to reading supports vocabulary building, oral language, and understanding of sentence structure for writing. It supports listening comprehension, visualizing as a comprehension strategy and builds background knowledge. Using the cds and books helps increase attention and stamina for reading and learning tasks, vs the overstimulation of digital reading platforms.
