Frank Webb's Bath & Lighting Center Grant: See, Think, Create Like an Artist-Inspired by the New Britain Museum of American Art
- School Year: 2016-2017
- Applicants: Penelope Drown, Lead Teacher Sydney Kenna (Bugbee)
- School: Charter Oak
- Subjects: Visual Arts
This collaborative Visual Arts initiative will provide 140 fourth grade students from Charter Oak International Academy and Bugbee Elementary School the opportunity to learn and work together as they investigate different artistic styles, participate in an interactive field experience with the New Britain Museum of American Art and create an original piece of artwork utilizing their new knowledge of artists and their styles. To develop artistic literacy, students will view digital presentations from the New Britain Museum demonstrating different aspects of art. They will: SEE like an Artist; THINK like an Artist; IMAGINE like an Artist; and INTERPRET like an Artist. Students will then select one of four workshops to participate in during their visit to the Museum:Landscape Postcards, Impressionist Oil Pastels, Artist Benches or Hybrid Sculpture Challenge. To share this collaborative project with the community, the students’ artwork will be displayed in the art show of each “companion” school; and at Art Beat, the town-wide art exhibit.
