- School Year: 2014-2015
- Applicants: Catherine Buchholz, Lead Teacher
- School: Hall High School
- Subjects: Language Arts, Music
This grant will help fund an artist-in-residence program at Hall High School with local musician and songwriter Kate Callahan. Through this grant, Ms. Callahan will work for an entire semester on a weekly basis with students in a course that will be similar to a college survey course in creative writing. Through a series of writing workshops, students will be inspired to explore world and community issues as well as their own creative interests. Students will also develop writing skills and techniques to assist them with developing their writing voice on fiction and nonfiction tasks. The culminating project for the students will include an electronic literary magazine of student poetry, short stories, and essays. In addition, students will read two of their polished pieces to an audience of students, friends, and educators.
