Students in grades four and five at Smith Elementary School will explore sound in an exciting new way! Students will build an understanding of sound concepts with Vernier Sound Level Meters and Vernier Microphones to utilize with the Vernier LabQuest 2 interfaces. With these tools, students will learn about vibration, how sound travels, ways to measure sound levels, and the basics of pitch. They will be able to utilize these sophisticated tools as they engage in a variety of student-led investigations on sound concepts. Students will be able to participate in inquiry investigations utilizing this equipment such as determining the speed of sound in air by creating a short sound in a column of air such as a hollow tube.
