“Purposeful Mathematics Play in Kindergarten” will bring a variety of hands-on manipulatives to Kindergarten students at Webster Hill Elementary School. Inspired by the methods of Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia, philosophies that have long embraced open-ended as well as guided play in students’ learning, this grant will provide students with a variety of engaging opportunities to practice counting, number sense, shapes, measurement, and early addition and subtraction concepts in an exciting and developmentally appropriate way. The versatility of the materials purchased with this grant will allow our kindergarten students to delve deeper into math concepts, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a love of exploration that goes beyond rote memorization. These manipulatives will transform classrooms into vibrant hubs of discovery, where every student can build a strong foundation in math and develop a lifelong love of learning.
