Multiple copies of fairy tales and folk tales will be purchased for the second grade classes at Braeburn. These books will help ensure that each child is being instructed at his / her appropriate reading level. Currently there are few books available in the school to meet the needs of those students who are reading below grade level. In response to the Common Core Standards, second graders will be reading classical, cultural and fractured fairy tales and will focus on three main objectives in reading, writing, speaking and listening: compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story by different authors or from different cultures, write opinion pieces, and participate in collaborative conversations with their peers and teachers about these stories. These books will be used in subsequent years to support the curriculum and will help meet the individual needs of all learners.
