Hawkins Family Grant: ESOL Science Adventure--Affecting Our Environment

Town wide ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students in grades 6,7,8 will investigate and explore science topics including River of Life, Planet Earth and Exploring Science. Students will go to the CT Science Center and on their return to school they will continue their studies on these topics. Science, technology and language arts will be incorporated in the project. Middle School students and their families will be invited to engage in a Family Science Event led by staff from the CT Science Center. ESOL Middle School Students are from various backgrounds and at different stages of acquiring English. This project will allow them the opportunity to visit the Science Center and also facilitate interaction and collaboration with ESOL students at all three middle schools. Students will also use and expand upon the information gained through the trips by reading content related fiction and non fiction books a their reading level.
