This grant funds a collaboration at Charter Oak Elementary School between the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department with the Physical Education Department through the installation of a Gaga Ball Pit to promote physical exercise, cooperation, and communication between Deaf and hearing students of all ages. As stated on page two of the PSPE, physical education should combine the skills of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development. The Gaga Ball Pit will allow students to exercise their bodies, as well as incorporating the philosophy behind a highly-visual game to give insight into the cultural importance for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This game will allow all members of the student community to gain cultural competence and appreciation for diversity.
