J.P. Carroll Construction Grant: Master Mathematics with Magna-Tiles

Students across grades 3, 4, and 5 at Bugbee Elementary School will have the opportunity to use Magna-Tiles as a tool for better understanding perimeter, area, and volume within the STEM curriculum. As an enrichment and academic enhancement project, individual students as well as collaborative groups can use the tiles to create physical forms that give life to the principles of 2D and 3D form. With the ability to apply the Magna-Tiles to academic lessons in multiple ways, the tiles will strengthen students’ interaction with the abstract and physical aspects of the STEM curriculum. The tiles provide a physical method for illustrating the mathematical points related to specific academic lessons as well as providing a means of student expression for geometric exploration.
