What makes children want to read a book? A great story! But when children are reading books at their level as they develop their emerging reading skills, there are not always leveled books that have quality plot lines while also having purposefully-designed language to practice phonics. Enter Whole Phonics and Half Pints, two sets of decodable readers that provide emerging readers with leveled texts to practice phonics skills aligned with classroom phonics instruction, and still provide a great story for the kids! This grant will provide students and families at Bugbee Elementary School with take home readers to practice the books being shared across classrooms at school to address the science of reading.
