First and fourth-grade students at Smith STEM Elementary School will participate in an exciting exploration of sound energy, bringing their science and music curricula to life. This project will immerse them in the powerful world of sound through a dynamic performance and interactive demonstration by the Connecticut-based Japanese drumming group, Taikoza. This captivating experience will provide a visceral understanding of sound energy, forging meaningful connections to their classroom studies. Following the performance, students will engage in hands-on activities, including building string, wind, and percussion instruments and modeling sound waves, deepening their comprehension of how sound travels and is created. This multi-sensory approach will culminate in music class as they apply their newfound knowledge to explore the unique sound production of their various handmade musical instruments. This initiative promises to be an unforgettable and impactful way to ignite students' curiosity and understanding of energy in science and music.
