The Hatch the Chicken program is a 5 week in-classroom opportunity for students in the REACH program to observe, draw, and record observations as a chick grows from the incubator to hatching stage. They will use these observations and drawings to connect to and model how mitosis and meiosis are similar and different. They will apply this to the levels of organization of an organism and how genetic variations occur in animals. Finally, this will be a social emotional opportunity for the whole REACH community. Students in all classes can work together and bond with real living organisms that they can care for and give them a reason to come and engage in class.
