Judy and John Bierly Grant: NBMAA Museum Exploration and Studio Session
- School Year: 2022-2023
- Applicants: Elizabeth Bianco, Lead Applicant
- School: Bugbee
- Subjects: Visual Arts
To enrich the visual arts experience of Bugbee upper elementary students, all fourth and fifth graders will visit the New Britain Museum of American Art, where works of art connect to curricula across all subject areas. Students will visit the Hudson River paintings and learn about western expansion. Students will explore exhibits where colonialism through modern day are represented in various media. They will learn about how the “Elements of Art” can be used to send a message, convey emotion, and tell stories. Students will gain perspective on the role of the visual arts in the human experience. Bugbee’s young artists will also benefit from a studio session, when they will apply their learning to an original piece of their own. An instructor will guide all students through the creative process and will integrate new learning with their math or language arts curricula.
