A puppet theater, a cast of pre designed puppets and materials needed for students to design their own puppets will be purchased for Matt Dicks fifth grade class at Wolcott Elem. School. Puppetry will be used primarily in the areas of reading and writing to assist in the instruction of fluency by providing students with an authentic motivating means of practicing this skill. It will also provide special needs students with an opportunity to practice reading and fluency in a mode that they often find safer and more engaging. The students will be writing and performing plays using puppetry. Script writing is a medium that students are familiar with and adding puppets to this process will build upon their enthusiasm and improve reading and writing skills.
