  • Subjects: Visual Arts, Language Arts

Tom Lee, an amazing storyteller and teacher, will spend three days at Wolcott Elementary School with the 1st – 3rd grade students. This three day cross curricular residency will offer students the opportunity to hear stories, look at vividly detailed artwork, write, draw and role place to evoke rich language, robust vocabulary and detailed writing. Tom Lee will teach the students about the writing process and visual literacy. In addition, the students will be exposed to great works of art. The students will use their own drawings, inspired by these great works of art to drive their own creative process and develop amazing pieces of writing. This particular strategy for working with children was developed and implemented for the Yale Center for British Art. Tom Lee’s program supports the Common Core Curriculum and the skills and strategies learned will carry over into the day to day writing skills and ultimately enhance the overall writing program at XX Elementary School.
