Launching Literacy through the Nutmeg Nominees

Each month a different 2014 Nutmeg Book Nominee will be offered as a book club selection for 4th and 5th grade students at Webster Hill. Daytime student book clubs will be offered at lunch, recess, and before or after school for students wishing to participate in these discussions. A parent/child Nutmeg Book Club will also take place in the library one evening a month. Activities associated with these clubs will include discussion of literary elements, student inspired projects, and skyping with authors. In addition to the book clubs, Read Across America Week will provide the opportunity for all students to design and wear costumes of their favorite Nutmeg Book characters. All students will also have the opportunity to create a video book trailer featuring their favorite Nutmeg book. A culminating activity for the school will include the premier showing of these book trailers at the end of the year Summer Reading Assembly.
