Lexham West Hartford Grant: Coding is Elementary!
- School Year: 2020-2021
- Applicants: Kathy Hardesty, Lead Teacher & Dawn Hyland, Jill Devor, Stephanie Rojas
- School: Charter Oak
- Subjects: Technology
Coding, or the language of programming, is quickly becoming a language that our youngest students need to learn how to “speak”. Programming is a profession that continues to rapidly grow in demand in our workforce, and by introducing young kids to the basics, we are opening new doors for possible passions, interests, and career paths in STEM fields. This grant will enable first graders at Charter Oak International Academy to learn block style coding over a 12 week period in the spring of 2021. Teachers will be able to use the tools, after being introduced in their classrooms as rotating centers. This grant will be able to be repeated each year and more kids can be introduced to coding at an early age.
