Incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts (STEM) with literature provides opportunities for Norfeldt students to solve problems or complete tasks related to books we read during weekly library classes. Doing so is a way to enhance and enliven the library experience for students from kindergarten through fifth grade while strengthening reading comprehension and STEM content skills. Funds from this grant will provide Makerspace/STEM materials to combine interactive read-alouds with hands-on math and science investigations. These experiences will go above and beyond the classroom science curriculum that classroom teachers deliver. Students will be provided with academic challenge opportunities on topics of personal interest that are not currently written into their grade level curriculum.
