All fourth Grade readers will gain enhanced reading fluency and comprehension through the addition of 12 iPod Nanos at Whiting Lane Elementary School. Using these devices, teachers will preload appropriate leveled reading material so that students can partake in repeated readings as well as listen while reading in order to improve reading rate, accuracy and comprehension. Research has shown that students benefit from listening to examples of fluent reading as this improves reading rate, comprehension and expands vocabulary and builds stamina. These devices will allow the 4th grade readers the opportunity to listen and read individually, and provide them the space to focus on their own pacing, inflection and expression of oral presentation.
