Michelle & Paul Sullivan Grant: Aquaponics Learning Laboratory
- School Year: 2020-2021
- Applicants: Benjamin Norland, Lead Teacher & Anthony Wasley
- School: Hall High School
- Subjects: Science
To create the Aquaponics Learning Laboratory, students will build and maintain a fully functional aquaponics system. The system will include a 300 gallon stock tank supporting up to 50 fish and 100 gallons of grow beds for plants. Research and experimentation in chemistry, ecology, evolution, and sustainability will commence as students care for plants, animals, and the resident microbial community in a closed loop ecosystem. Students will monitor the system health as well as propose improvements and troubleshoot and solve any problems that arise through careful application of the scientific method and the Next Generation Science Standards "Science and Engineering Practices".
