This grant will provide weekly one hour cooking lessons for the special needs students at Charter Oak in grades 1-5. Visits by a local nutritionist and chef will also help students to learn about healthy eating , healthy cooking, as well as food service occupations. A "Field Experience" to our local Outback Steakhouse for a Joey tour will teach students about food preparation as well as cooking and serving. Students will write recipe reviews and compile recipes into a cookbook to be shared throughout the school. Cooking tips will be broadcast daily via video announcements, and the student chefs will visit all classrooms to demonstrate a skill or teach a recipe that aligns with the common core.
