This innovative grant will allow 4th and 5th grade students at Morley Elementary School to engage in a postcard exchange with actors/artists at the Hartford Stage Company during the play adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The project will be implemented over a six week period and will include 2 workshops provided by the Hartford Stage, lessons by the QUEST teacher, and attendance at the play as a culminating activity. After the play the students will join in a panel discussion with the actors. The students will create a postcard image and learn to ask high level questions of the actors who will respond in character. The meetings will include theater games, close reading of pieces of text viewing of adaptations lectures and creation of the postcard project.
