Nolin Selby Fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Grant: Exploring the United States Regions and Beyond with Map Skills

  • School Year: 2025-2026
  • Applicants: Katherine Butler
  • School: Braeburn
  • Subjects: Language Arts, Science, Social Studies

Third-grade teachers at Braeburn are bringing geography to life with new double-sided, dry-erase maps of the United States and the world. These interactive tools will help students explore U.S. regions, track animal migration, and understand how geography influences Indigenous folktales and cultural stories. The project supports hands-on, cross-curricular learning that connects ELA, science, and social studies. Through these engaging lessons, students will strengthen their map skills, deepen their understanding of the world, and build curiosity about the connections between people, places, and nature.
