Rick Labadia, in-resident author and artist, will work with all Charter Oak International Academy students, grades Pre-K through 5th, to create a stunningly colorful and creative rock garden that welcomes everyone to the school! This project helps students bring the IB mission statement to life: "to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect." First, students will learn the vital message through Linda Kranz' book Only One You, that "There's only one you in this great big world...make it a better place." School-wide, students will focus on the concepts that everyone is unique with differences to be celebrated, and everyone has a chance to create a better world every single day. After that, students will work with Mr. Labadia to plan, design, and then create their very own painted rocks. In the spring, the collaborative rock garden will be created together in a school-wide ceremony!
