Project FeederWatch with Cornell University

  • School Year: 2013-2014
  • Applicants: Lee Gluck
  • School: Whiting Lane
  • Subjects: Science

Project FeederWatch provides students with the chance to participate in and contribute to a legitimate scientific survey that is run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Bird Studies. After a feeder is set up on school grounds, the students will be observing, recording, and reporting the number of birds as well as the different species that frequent the feeder. These activities allow the students to become familiar with the scientific process through hands on experience in which they are acting as the scientists. This places students in the role of legitimate scientists from a young age, boosting their confidence and showing them the different possibilities for their future.
