Second and third graders at Bugbee Elementary School will study the characteristics of different communities, such as urban, suburban, and rural communities. They will then take a field trip to the Connecticut Historical Society to participate in their program titled “What Makes a Community?” They will build a community using maps and blocks, tour the “Making Connecticut” exhibit, and participate in activities focusing on contributing to their community and being good citizens. Students will have an opportunity to discuss how a real community proposal would affect them, and then vote on that proposal.
