Rogo Distributors Grant: Where Does All the Trash Go?

Education on the impact of trash generated by society and methods that will help reduce this impact is important for all ages but most importantly for school-age children. By understanding the issues and challenges related to waste management, its relationship to the earth’s resources and how innovative solutions to waste reduction, material renewal and recycling, students will gain insight into the significance of their actions and the opportunity to help improve this global issue. This grant will fund a field trip for all of Charter Oak Elementary School’s 3rd graders to the CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford to learn to Reduce, Reuse, Recover and Rethink. Students will learn both about the history of waste management issues, innovative solutions to the problem and ways in which they can help as individuals and as a community. In addition to the museum visit, students will both write explanatory essays and share their writing and reflections with the overall school community.
