Rotary Club of West Hartford Grant: Sensory Integration for Young Children
- School Year: 2024-2025
- Applicants: Emily McMurray, Lead Applicant
- School: Charter Oak
- Subjects: Social Emotional Learning, Other (Brain Development)
This grant will fund the purchase of sensory materials for our preschoolers at Charter Oak International Academy, addressing the needs of many children who feel dysregulated while at school. These materials will provide essential tools for self-soothing and calming, benefiting all children by enhancing their ability to process sensory information effectively. Sensory integration is crucial for young learners as it improves focus, develops motor skills, and aids emotional regulation. Additionally, engaging with diverse sensory experiences fosters social skills and creativity, laying a strong foundation for overall development. The materials will be housed in a "sensory library," allowing teachers to check them out for classroom use and providing a designated space where staff can take students for sensory breaks. This initiative aims to create a more supportive and engaging learning environment for all preschoolers.
