Punches, Parades, and Professors: Expanding Chinese Learning Beyond the Classroom is a culturally immersive project designed to deepen students’ understanding of Chinese language and heritage at Hall High School. The “Punches” component brings Grand Master Ginger Jiang from Julong Wushu to introduce students to traditional Chinese martial arts, including tai chi, kung fu, and the lion and dragon dances. “Parades” enhances our school’s annual Lunar New Year celebration by involving students in preparing and distributing festive souvenirs like red envelopes and decorative items. Finally, the “Professors” segment offers AP Chinese students a field trip to Yale University, featuring a guided tour of Chinese art at the Yale Art Gallery, a visit to a college-level Chinese class, and lunch at authentic local Chinese restaurants. Together, these experiences promote cultural appreciation, language engagement, and community connection beyond the classroom walls.
