Smith Brothers Insurance Grant: A New England Harvest Tradition for English Learners

Whiting Lane & ESOL Students will have the opportunity to engage in a traditional New England Fall Harvest experience. In October, these English Learners will visit Lyman Orchards, where they will have the opportunity to pick apples, pumpkins and to explore the corn maze. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to build their background knowledge and vocabulary related to this time-honored local tradition. Before the trip, students will be learning vocabulary and content about plant biology and the local fall harvest. Following the trip, students will create a Google Slideshow about their experience.They will then spend time creating a follow up section to the slideshow where they showcase a tradition from their own culture.Slideshows will be shared with their peers in class and with the entire school community.
