Screen time seems to be replacing reading for enjoyment with almost half of upper elementary students. In order to engage reluctant and struggling readers, books that encourage students to read (easier level, genre variety, illustrated, series) will be purchased. These books contain diverse characters and age appropriate situations so struggling readers can feel challenged with the problems in the books, but not the reading levels. These books will be used in book clubs at Duffy school to bring the joy of reading back to more students; to support the WHPS curriculum, and, most importantly, to set up a lifelong appreciation for reading.
