Spanish for Spanish Speakers - Nonfiction World Language Resources
- School Year: 2013-2014
- Applicants: Sarah Burke, Lead Teacher Jessica Serrano, Elvira Casillas
- School: Sedgwick Middle School
- Subjects: Language Arts, World Language
Approximately 200 Spanish language nonfiction texts will be purchased for use in world language classrooms, particularly the two Spanish for Spanish speakers classes at Sedgwick Middle School. The reading ability of these students is quite wide and a variety of high interest reading sources will help the two teachers to provide support and remediation to some, as well as to extend and enrich the learning for others. It is the project’s goal to add two non-fiction reading resources for each student during the first and third quarters of the school year. Texts used will support the Common Core standards of increasing the use of nonfiction sources in language instruction. Texts will also support a greater depth of understanding of the Science curriculum by reinforcing topics introduced in Science class using Spanish nonfiction readers.
