This grant will fund the purchase of three standing desks at Wolcott Elementary School, capable of accommodating 6-9 students at a time, students could be rotated throughout the day based upon need and desire. The goal of Stand Up is to provide students with the opportunity to use a standing desk for a portion of their school day. Not only will this program provide a fitter lifestyle, but for students who struggle with hyperactivity disorder, the ability to stand for a portion of their day could be enormously beneficial. Physical movement is often used as a strategy to improve behavior and attentiveness. Research demonstrates again and again that student engagement increases with movement and physical activity.
