The Hawkins Family Grant: New Life for the Classics

New Common Core Standards ask students to read more complex text than ever before such as “Little Women” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. 7th grade students at Sedgwick Middle School are required to read a “Classic” for independent reading. The library’s copies of many of these classics are old, with small print and outdated covers. This grant will purchase several copies of new classic fiction books appropriate for 7th grade level.
