Fourth graders at Charter Oak Elementary School will research, brainstorm, and develop an understanding of the roles of each branch of government, then take a field trip to the Connecticut Historical Society and the Connecticut State Capitol. They will participate in activities and role playing, which include electing a student as governor, preparing arguments and debating a bill, and holding a mock trial. While at the Capitol, they will be able to meet with local government representatives. Through these engaging activities, the students will learn the purpose of each branch of government, and the importance of rules and laws.
