This In Residence grant with the Hartford Stage Company is for Fourth Grade students at Wolcott Elementary School. It uses theatre techniques to strengthen reading comprehension and build excitement about reading. A teaching artist will visit classrooms to lead drama activities based on a work of literature chosen by the fourth grade teachers. The Connections Program of the Hartford Stage Company provides an innovative and engaging way to integrate reading comprehension strategies including “reader’s theatre”, building background knowledge, collaboration with peers and close reading of text.
