This grant will allow students at Smith STEM Elementary School access to diverse books within the classroom. Every student should have access to books where they can see themselves and relate to the characters. They should be given the opportunity to read books that open their eyes to different perspectives, cultures, traditions, and family structures. Having these texts in the fourth grade classrooms will allow all students to identify with characters in literature. This is beneficial to the social emotional growth of today's students.
