To align with the “Go Green” unit and enhance the Common Core writing curriculum, third grade students at Charter Oak Elementary School will visit the CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford to learn to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, and Rethink. Through the interactive Trash Museum visit, students will gain insight into how our decisions affect the global supply of resources. They will examine problems, solutions, and our responsibility. Students will create new solutions. The science and writing curriculum will be enhanced by this rich, unique experience not available through books or internet research. Students will be able to see first hand how recycling is put into action. Students will learn the history of past actions, and the change(s) we can make to help. Students will speak and write about the experience, their new learning, and share their knowledge with the school community through their explanatory writing, Glogs, and projects.
